High Intensity Interval Training
If you look around the Internet quite a few of the big weight loss guru’s say that high intensity interval training is the best way to burn body fat quickly. Others swear by doing longer cardio session at a lower to moderate pace. At the moment I’m doing a one hour cardio session each day and I have just started wearing a sweat suit whilst I’m doing it. So hiit training is definitely out of the question whilst I’m wearing the sweatsuit. But some days I’m doing slightly more than just this one hour cardio session. Sometimes I may do another 30 minutes session on the bike to burn more calories so that I don’t fall behind on the calories burnt whilst I’m on the 50,000 calories in 50 day challenge.
High Intensity Interval Training will probably suit be better on my fat loss journey, because as I’ve mentioned on numerous occasions one hour cardio and one hour weight training session are really eating into my time. My plan is once I complete the 50,000 calorie challenge is to reduce my cardio to probably three to four 30 minute sessions each week. Probably on a Tuesday, Thursday Saturday and perhaps Sunday.
My life fitness exercise bike is perfect for high intensity interval training sessions because when you set it into manual mode it has 13 different levels one being the easiest and 13 being the hardest. Other fantastic advantage to doing hiit training for me is once I get fitter I will probably burn nearly the same amount of calorie I would on my current one hour cardio sessions on level 4.
One of the biggest reasons why high intensity interval training is so popular is the way it elevates your metabolic rate for hours after you complete your workout. Having done a little research into this today, I just can’t believe I not tried this form of cardio training before. I’ve already done a one hour session on the bike this morning. And I’m about to go for my first hiit session, I will warm up for a few minutes on level 3 then increase and decrease levels every minute I’m looking to burn off around 500 calories for a 30 minute exercise session, which is not that far off what I’m currently burning per hour which is 675 calories.
A High Intensity Interval Training Program is definitely the way I’ll be doing my cardio once I complete my first body fat challenge and return from my friends stag weekend in Benidorm. I know that once I achieve a low body fat percentage that I will need to make cardio exercise a part of my daily life. Long exercise session will not cut it for me over the long term so for a person like me short 30 minute hiit sessions are perfect.
