Stopping Boredom Whilst Exercising

my body fatMost people find exercise extremely boring. For example to get the most benefit out of a cardio workout we must exercise for at least 30 minutes. Plus you get better results by sticking to just one machine for the duration of your workout. But lets say your running on a treadmill this can get extremely boring. I do all my cardio workouts on a stationery bike in a very small 2 m by 2.5 m bedroom. Let me tell you, this can get extremely boring for me because my workouts are generally one hour long in duration. So to combat this I have come up with things to do to stop me from getting bored whilst burning my body fat.

Thing to do number 1

I’ve got a TV in the bedroom with a freeview box set up as well, to give myself a better choice of channels whilst exercising. I usually catch up with the soaps or listen to some music which reduces the boredom quite a lot.

Thing to do number 2

Rather than listen to music from the TV. I get to pick what music I want to listen to my making my own play-lists on my Ipod. This also works out for me because I try to make each play-list just under 60 minutes long. By doing this when the play-list ends I know I getting to the end of my workout. I’ve got a clock telling me how long I’ve done, but I cover this up with a towel. I find if it’s on display my workouts feel much longer and can drag on a bit.

Things to do number 3

Why not surf the net or if your a blogger like me why not update your blog or website whilst exercising, finding time to update my blog can become very difficult due to my day job and other things. So what better way do it than whilst your exercising. Your killing two birds with one stone so to speak. I’m writing this post now whilst exercising with sweat running down my face. It’s not a pretty sight let me tell you. To achieve this I had to do a little modification on my exercise bike. Here a picture of the wooden stand that I made which allows me to surf the net and update this blog whilst I exercise.

Things to do number 4

Watch a DVD for this you need a DVD player  in the room were your exercising. Most of the things that I mention in this blog post are things that I do to stop the boredom when I’m exercising. If you workout in a gym away from your hone, some of these things you will not be able to complete, and watching your favorite DVD will be one of them. This is another reason why I prefer exercising at home rather than going to an expensive gym to workout. I’ve watched an endless amount of films whilst exercising on my stationery bike. Because the duration of the workout will be over 1.5 hours I usually do this on level 2 which is a nice pace, which won’t burn me out before I get to the end of the film.

These are the things I do to stop getting bored whilst exercising. The bottom line is, to do things which will make your workouts feel like there flying by and things that you will enjoy.
