When To Take Whey Protein

body fat percentage 22.1%When you are trying to lower your body fat percentage like I am, you need to make sure that you are getting high quality protein into your diet at every meal. Adding a protein source to every meal that you eat is not only very expensive but can be quite time consuming preparing it. With this in mind I like to prepare myself whey protein shakes which I drink throughout the day. One thing that you must remember though never substitute shakes for healthy balanced meals.

When to take whey protein though, well the best way to take it I find is to have one shake immediately after waking up in the morning, and on training days one and half hours before I start my workout and then straight after I finish my workout. I also have a whey protein shake just before I go to bed. On none training days I have a shake straight after waking up, one at lunchtime, one at dinner and one before I go to bed. So in total that is 4 shakes that I consume each and every day. By consuming lots of whey protein I am making sure that I am not losing valuable lean muscle mass as I’m dieting and trying to lower my body fat levels.

Lots of people don’t like taking whey protein powder though, because of the taste. If that’s the case for you why don’t you try adding bananas, strawberries or honey to it to brighten up the taste. If you search the Internet there are hundreds and hundreds of whey protein recipes that make that dull tasting shake taste absolutely delicious.

Knowing when to take protein powder will make sure that you stay on track with your fat loss and muscle building goals. And ensure that your body always has enough high quality protein in it to keep building muscle or at least maintain the muscle that you have got whilst your cutting body fat.
