One of the main reason why the majority of people are overweight is because they have a very slow metabolism. They eat hardly any food but this still find it extremely difficult to lose weight and shift body fat. But did you know there are foods that increase metabolism, by eating these foods you are allowing your body to burn off more calories which means you will end up losing more weight.
Here is a list of foods that speed up metabolism.
1) Before we get to the food part one thing you must do if you are to speed up your metabolism is drink more water, drink it evenly spaced out throughout the day. By swapping your fizzy soda drinks and caffeine for water you will be well on your way to losing weight and speeding up that slow metabolism. If you want something with a bit more taste why not had a slice of lemon or lime to the water to give it a bit more favour. Or better still prepare a few litres of green tea like I do and drink it throughout the day. I have found this to be one of the reasons that my body fat percentage keeps going down week after week.
2) Eat foods that are rich in fibre and complex carbohydrates, foods such as wholegrain cereal, fruits and vegetables. You have all probably heard you must eat 5 a day. I use to think eating 5 pieces of fruit and vegetables a day was hard. But the secret to eating them is to eat more often, eating 5 to 6 small meals a day, is much better than eating 3 large meals a day. Add your favorite piece of fruit or veg to each of your 5 small meals and there you have your 5 a day. Since I’ve been eating more fruit and veg my skin is much more clear, I’ve got more energy and I’m feeling like the fat is just melting off my body.
3) Foods that don’t speed up metabolism and should be avoided at all costs are processed foods and foods that contain refined sugars. If you take a look at my diet plan you will notice that all my food contains lots of fruit and veg and plenty of fibre. It is also high in protein which I require to build and maintain muscle why I’m losing fat. Most of my protein comes from whey protein shakes that I prepare the night before, not only is it a cheaper source of protein but it is so quick and easy to prepare. Something that you need when you lead a very hectic lifestyle like I do.
