Losing Weight Vs Losing Fat
For years I have been doing it all wrong, I’m a yo-yo dieter I can lose 20 pounds in 4 weeks and I can probably gain it back in 2 weeks. Losing weight has never been a problem for me, I just cut back on the food and it seems to fly off me. But losing weight like I have for all these years has been one big mistake.
Each time I have done a cycle of losing weight then gaining it, I have been losing lean muscle mass. This is something that you don’t want to do. Because quite simply the more muscle your body carries the more calories it can burn off.
I’ve managed to lose nearly 30 pounds this year, but only the last ten pounds are the ones which were lost smartly. I’m happy I’ve lost the excess weight and the bottom line is probably around 20 pounds of it is fat. Which is good news, but my aim now is to totally change my body composition. I need to lose fat and at the same time gain muscle, the experts say this can’t be done. So I may need to drop more pounds, then gain the muscle. Maybe do a few cycles of losing 5 pounds of fat then gain 5 pounds of muscle.
Losing fat is definitely harder than just losing weight, you need to work at much harder. I’m working a full time job which is quite manual, then once I get home I’m exercising for nearly two hours each day. Losing fat takes hard work and determination especially if you want to shift the fat from your body as fast as you can.
The only problem I find when I’m trying to lose weight is I’m always grabbing at the fat each day to see if it’s going down. This is a habit I just can not break, it always feels much smaller in the morning though. So I might just grab at it in the morning.
If fat loss is your aim you must invest in a pair of body fat scales. The ones that I use, have hand grips sensors which are connected to a piece of wire which you pull away and hold at a 90 degree angle whilst standing on the scales. Best purchase I’ve made in years. I’m finally going to say goodbye to my body fat once and for all, well not all of it or I’d be dead
